Well that was a well needed "W" last night against the 1st place Rangers. Hopefully the boys picked up more than just 2pts, but also some much needed confidence. However, they seem to stop playing the last 2 minutes of each period, especially the "Churd" when leading. Q get on that - moustache remind them to put in a full 60 mins. Oooh-Dooo-Yaah welcome aboard (Roenick who?) nice goal keep'em comin!! Lov the Razor ride = not pretty, but effective! All we need is the Captain back and this ship of fools is ready to set sail for the cup!! Thanks to the pussy Pacific we have the Stars roadblocking us so it looks as if a 5th place finish will be our highest opportunity. Which might mean a 1st rd vs. the Scumbags and a 2nd round Blues bash'n = old school playoff hockey not the present day usual Nashville/Fucnutz, bullshit!

Mayday Mayday!!! We are in a total spin out! And if we don't right this ship soon... Goose is going to die.

Goose at this point is the Hawks 2011-12 season. I understand losing. It happens. It can even be a good thing at times. You grow together...bond over some beers with the boys... and you right the god damn ship!! But this has gotten out of control. Hawks have lost 9 straight and 11 straight road games. This ends tonight...

The Rangers are reportedly playing their backup goalie tonight vs the Hawk. A clear slap in the face. The Rangers are basically saying.. "eh.. let's play the B team tonight...It's only Chicago coming to town". I see this as a perfect time to just get a point. Win or tie... we'll take it. Just get the ship going in a different direction.

You can tell that Captain is banged up... He looked lazy giving up a goal vs Nashville. Toews never plays lazy....something is wrong. My guess is that his wrist is still banged up.

Crawford needs to step up tonight and STAY IN HIS NET!!!!! Craw Daddy has spent more time running around the net than he has protecting it. We still don't have a shut out this season. Tonight's a good time for that and this horrendous streak to end.

Big stage tonight at MSG... Best team in the league... You haven't won in a month... No motivation needed. Let's Go Hawks! Let's Go Hawks!! Let's Go Hawks!!!

Friday Night Hockey!!! Do you know the way to San Jose??

Welcome back Hawk Fans!!! Da' Hawks head to the Shark Tank tonight to take on San Jose. Things have spiraled out of control lately. Defense has been awful. Offense has been putrid. Goaltending has not been good. And to make things worse, Hjarrlmusson and Montador were both sent back home to Chicago. Hjarrls is reportedly concussed...which would really weaken our already pitiful blue line.

Ok...I'm depressing myself writing this. Positives..positives..positives..? Craw back in the net tonight. He did play well in the Hawks last visit to San Jose. It would be nice if he would take it upon himself to go ahead and play well tonight. Did you know... Your Hawks are the only team in the NHL without a shutout!?! Clearly not a good thing.

Someone forward this to Johnny Toews...He's Canadian...Tell the boys to eat some putin and maple syrup and PUT THE PUCK IN THE NET!!!

The Hawks have been given heaps of trouble against these slippery Oilers this year. How exactly is it that we keep being shellacked by a team that has the 2nd least amount of points in the conference?

Could it be that our face-offs with Edmonton come directly on the heels of games against the Canucks? Are the Indian Head sweaters blowing their load in Vancouver?

I'd like to hear from you, Hawk fans. Why can't we seem to beat this team?

Only one way to end a bad streak right? Find a "slump buster" to get your confidence back. And where better to do that than Ohhhh Canada!!! Where the Molson flows like fine wine, and the chicks are cold and ez! Speaking of slump busters... the year we won the cup...Kaner and the boyz found themselves a prototypical "slump buster". (see above) Hopefully Kane still has their numbers..cause the lil guy needs to get some confidence back. I'm have a feellin that it will return and we will smack the Canucks tonight.
Sharpie is back and so is Capt Serious. Second half of our cup run starts in the place where last season ended. Let's get this thing goin on the right foot! Canucks Suck! Let's Go Hawks!!

However, I'm becoming concerned with Pat Kane. Has he scored this year? Hopefully a visit from his home town team will send a charge into the young forward.

Good thing the kids are already showing that they are capable of stepping up. Big win last night with two goals coming from Shaw and Hayes. I'll take my chances with talented kids over a goon with an attitude problem any day.

Nothing like a big rivalry hockey game to take you into a weekend of playoff football, THEN capped by a Hawks night game on Sunday at home vs San Jose. Need to win one of the next two games here. Annnnd welcome back winter! Is there a better way to spend a Thursday night than to sit on the couch, crack a brew and watch the Hawks bury these NorthWildStars.

Razor (Ray Emory) in net tonight, as Craw Daddy takes tonight off. I'm guessing that Niklas Backstrom will mind the Wild net tonight. The injury bug has bitten the Hawk as of late, so it is going to be up to the kids to step up and score some goals. Benny Smith had a nice back hand the other night... but I want to see more chances for Jimmy Hayes and Andrew Shaw. Those three are gonna have to be big for us moving forward.

Minnesota is a tough team. We're gonna need to grind this one out and play smart. Dany Heatley is their big goal scorer, but they also have Mikko Koivu, Matt Cullen, and Cal Clutterbuck. Hopefully the Razor is sharp tonight and we jump on them early. We are 15-2-2 when we score first.

Hawk Notes: Congrats goes out to the Hawks 3.5 All Stars. Toews, Hossa, and Kaner were selected, while word is that Sharpie would have also been nominated if he was not hurt. Where the hell is Seabrook?? I think he has been playing great all year and deserved to be on the team. Hopefully it lights a fire under his ass tonight and he crushes someone.

In other news, the Hawks host the Columbus Blue Jackets at the United Center tonight. Under normal circumstances, this would be considered an easy win for the Blackhawks. But with the Blue Jackets under new management and the Hawks coming into the game on a 4-game losing streak, as well as being short one Patrick Sharp, the Hawks are still going to have to play hard to get this much-needed win.

Back to Basics - Bury the Avalanche

The Hawks host the Colorado Avalanche tonight at the United Center. The Avalanche had a terrible start to the season (see video below), but they've been picking up steam lately. So although tonight is a game we should really win, we can't take them too lightly.

Tonight's game is sandwiched between a tough loss against the Flyers last night and a tough upcoming game against the Red Wings on Sunday, who will be looking to redeem themselves after losing the last matchup just a week ago. This is an important win we need tonight, to regain some confidence and remind ourselves that we deserve to be among the elite teams in the league.

There's been a lot of talk about player personnel, trades and the struggling defense. Sure, the depth of our D roster leaves much to be desired, but I think its also a matter of our team getting back to basics.

Here's a short list of fundamentals that will help:

#1 - Passing in our defensive zone and getting the puck out .... We have really struggled with this as of lately. Soft passes, fumbled passes and intercepted passes have given up way too many scoring opportunities to the other team, forcing Crawdaddy and Razor to make incredible saves.

#2 - Keeping our heads on a swivel .... Last night was a clear example of why this is so important to remember. While 4 of our Hawks were focused on one guy with the puck, there were Flyers coming down the weak-side completely unguarded, giving them free-reign in front of the net to receive a one-timer pass or get a rebound shot.

#3 - Shoot the Puck .... Too much fancy passing again. I thought we got past this after the start of the season, but it seems to have returned. Instead of taking wide open shots, we're either stalling long enough for the defense to contest the shot, or force extra, unnecessary passes that never get through.

Welcome back Hawks fans! Your fav blogger is live on the scene here in the city of brotherly love....where tonight our heros will be facing a tough Philly Phlyers squad. Weather here is very similar to the Chi, so it won't play a factor in tonights game.

Car Bomb was just suspended 7 games for his cheap shot the other night. The suspension was so high due to the fact that Carcillo is a goon and has been suspended three times already this year. I've said it before and I'll say it again....I hate hockey goons! Hopefully the Hawks will call up a player who has skill and actually might score a goal.

Again... I think this dude might be nutz... Never kill a tiger in Russia!!

Non Hawk Side note... Saw the kid on Montreal scored 4 goals last night, including one spin o rama on a penalty shot. Seems like the league is not following its own rules... and I quote the NHL rule book... "on the instruction of the Referee (by blowing his whistle), play the puck from there and shall attempt to score on the goalkeeper. The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent’s goal line"

Oilers beat Hawks 4-3...Wait...What??

Well that didn't go well. The Hawks got beat again by god damn Edmonton last night at home in the United Center. The big play was Carcillo boarding the bejesus out of that guy and putting the Hawks on a 4 minute penalty kill....which the Oil utilized to pour two goals passed Craw. Carcillo did make a nice play before he was booted, he assisted on the Hawks first goal.

Things don't get any easier for our heroes. Da Hawks(and your favorite blogger as well) head to Philthadelphia for a Thursday night clash with the Flyers. Unfortunately I will be en route back to the Chi during the game, so I will not be at the Wells Fargo Centre. Hopefully the Flyers start this guy Bryzgalov...He's a god damn nutbag!

Remember the Rextall Place!! Hawks seek revenge vs Edmonton

Happy New Year Hawks Fans! In game one of 2012, our heros welcome the Edmonton Oilers into the UC. Da Hawks should have no problem finding motivation for tonight's tilt, as the Oilers pounded the Hawks 9-2 in their last match up. However things have changed since the two clubs last met in November.

Da Hawks are HOT...I mean we are kickin everyone's arses.. 8-2 in the last 10 games... Our D is playing strong... our O is dominating the puck.. our Goalie's are both playing very well. Adding to the fun, the Hawks have regain their home ice swagger of late. This season we are 14-3-3 at home.

The Oilers on the other hand, have been slippin recently...get it...Oil...Slip??? Especially on the road where Edmonton hasn't won a road game since playing the worst team in the league Columbus on December 2nd. They have fallen to the bottom of the standings quickly as they have gone 2-8 in their last 10 games.

Early blog today, so not sure who the goalie match up will be. Both saw action in the 9 goal drubbing the Hawks took the last match up.

Seriously 9 freakin goals? Again.. motivation shouldn't be an issue... Key's tonight are simple... Stop their kid line of Eberle, Ted Nugent-Hopkins and this guy Tanner Hall... Seriously... 9... I'm calling for a revenge hat trick for the Captain tonight.. Toews for 3....Kaboom!

In case you don't know, live web streams are all the rage right now.

If you don't have access to watching a game for some reason, say you don't have cable or out of town, you can usually find a free web stream of the game feed.

One fairly trustworthy site, is : http://www.firstrowsports.tv/sport/ice-hockey.html

I've also had luck with: http://www.myp2p.pe/

Last year I used http://www.myp2pforum.eu/ almost religiously, but they've gone down.

You can also try searches for "streaming live hockey" or "p2p hockey" or "my p2p"

The only downside is that it can take find a site that uses a flash or quicktime feed instead of some weird format that requires you to download a codec.

I do not recommend downloading anything unless it is Flash, Quicktime, RealPlayer, or Windows Media Player.

One other small downside is that sometimes the signal thats available isn't the Chicago feed and you have to listen to the other teams announcers. I was out of the town for the Detroit game a few days ago and the only stream I could get to work on my mac and shitty connection was: http://freeredwings.tv/. It sucked listening to their commentators bitch and whine but it was fun fucking with people in the chatroom.

Looks like father time is catching up with the OLDEST team in the league (avg. age 29) the scumbags (aka Redwings.) The Hawks went toe to toe with them for the 1st of six match-ups this year. The scum scored first in both the first and second period to take the lead and quiet the UC. Come on 300 level only 1 "Detroit sux" chant - must have been the $500/ticket price that flooded the UC with lame corporate fans. Anyway our Captain got us back to even youngblood style (quick penalty shot goal!!) and Ho Ho Hossa got us even 2-2 after 2. They all showed hawkheart not letting the scumbags gain a 2 goal lead all game and Santa Seabrook gave us the early 3rd period game winning gift to continue his 5th consecutive goal in 5 games vs. the bags. It was great to get the carbomb back and only took him 3 shifts to drop the gloves!! Great way to end the year with a league leading 52 pts!!! Happy New Year to all and to all a good fight!!

Kings end Hawks home streak...

Hawks were shut out last night in front of another sell out crowd at the UC. Jonathan Quick was unreal, stopping a TON of good Hawk chances. It had the feeling that if we could get one, we'd win..... however...The Hawk offense never got started.

Patrick Sharp played great and so did Duncan Keith, both were very active offensively and defensively. I thought that Kaner seemed a little off, but understandable since he was diagnosed with streap throat 3 days prior. Hossa played inspired hockey last night, but really it was Craw Daddy who stepped up and played his arse off. Craw stopped everything he could, including a penelty shot by the Kings second best player, Mike Richards. The first goal was a scrum that got hit out of his grasp, and the second goal he made two rediculous saves before a 3rd attempt got past him.

I really felt Bickell let them down on the defensive side again. Last night he was lazy and refused to stick his nose in to try and get the puck. John Scott played on the offensive side of the puck last night, and while he was a big guy at the net and was WRONGLY penelized for "punching" a guy.... he's an offensive liability and has 0 chance of scoring a goal. Scott might get in on an assist or two, but forget about this guy actually shooting a puck passed someone. I really beleive that Coach Q thinks that this guy is Dustin Byfuglien. He's not and should never be played on offense again. On a night where we were shut out cause our stars didn't shine and our secondary players were ordinary. Another scoring threat would have been nice to have. Keep Scott on the bench, in the sky box, or on defense!

It's game night tonight at the UC, as the LA Kings come to town to take on Da Hawks! The Kings have been hot their last 5 games, going 3-1-1, and beating the Coyotes in their last contest. HOWEVER!! Your Hawks come in WHITE HOT...going 8-1-1 over their last 10 games, and owning the best record in the league. Detroit is still on our heels and we play them next, so a win tonight is of the utmost importance.
Kaner apparently has been fighting the flu, but should play tonight. Kruger is out again, and so is Carcillo. No word yet who will be in net, but we will update as soon as it is announced. Craw Daddy played out of his skull vs Columbus, stopping 37 shots. My guess is that Q will stick with him tonight.
Look for our depth to be a key tonight. Anze Kopitar is their leading point scorer with 34 total points, but their next highest point guy is Mike Richards with 22. Da Hawks have four players with more than 34 points (Hossa 40, Toews 37, Sharp 37, and Kane 34), and 6 who have more than 22 (add Keith 22 and Stallberg 22).
My key to a Hawk win tonight is to make Kopitar's head bleed! Let's Go Hawks!!

Hawks Hammer Columbus....A Boxing Day KO!

The Hawks left the UC on Monday night feeling good about themselves after overpowering the Blue Jackets 4-1. Stallberg netted two goals, while Sharpie and Ho-Ho-Hossa added one each. Craw Daddy was back to his usual form, stopping 37 shots and being named the second star of the game.
Columbus came out trying to hurt Marcus Kruger, who was just returning from a concussion. Hawks were without tough guys Daniel Carcillo and John Scott, but thankfully the shennanigans stopped after the Hawk started dominating the play.
I felt that both Brian Bickell and Andrew Brunette played strong games. Brunette has been very solid on the puck and has won a lot of battles on the boards. I'd like to see Bickell use his size on defense a little more, but think he played well on the offensive side.

Happy Boxing Day Hawk Fans! The NHL gives the 2012 Champs a Boxing Day present sending the team with the worst record in the league into a chilly Chi-Town, to take on the team with the most points in the league....Daaaaaa Hawks!! Da Hawks come in ridin high after thumping Montreal last Wednesday. Corey Crawford will stay between the pipes tonight and Marcus Kruger is set to make his return from that cheap shot he took vs Pittsburgh.

Hawks are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games, and already have more points this month than any other this year. Three more games still to go this month, but the last two games are vs LA and Detriot so points tonight are important. Ticket prices for this game are astronomical, so the Hawks might not be able to lean on the Madhouse noise tonight. A good start looks to be the key to another W; Columbus is 1-14-2 when their opponents score first.

We smoked these guys 6-3 when they came to the UC in November. Hopefully Kaner posterizes them again...

Another great win by our heros last night against a scrappy Montreal team. Toews/Brunette and Sharpie got us goin with back to back goals 21 seconds apart in the 2nd. Then Bickell put the game away with some strong effort by feeding the Swedish Chef Stallburg with 9 minutes to go in the 3rd. Now the boys get the weekend off before hosting Columbus next Monday.

One play that stuck out to me was the board work on our first goal. I felt that this was one of our strengths during the cup run. The puck would go into a corner and we would skate away with it 9 times out of 10. This year, Andrew Brunette has done a great job with that as well as with using his strength to hold the puck and slow things down. This clip from last night also shows Kaner diving in to win the battle and good things happening.

After Coach Joel Quenneville chalked his 600th career win on Sunday against the Flames on Sunday, the red-hot Hawks are out in Spits-blurg to face a Sidney-Crosby-less Penguins tonight.

The Hawks are happy to see defenseman Brent Seabrook return to the ice after suffering a crushing, illegal hit during the Calgary game from Rene Bourque. Ultimately, Bourque faced the review board, got a 2 game suspension, and issued this apology...

"The important thing for me is that Seabs is alright, I didn't mean to hurt him."

Daniel Carcillo did not travel to the 'Burg, as he is still out with an upper body injury.

It is unclear whether Ray Emery will be given the chance to continue his hot streak or whether Coach Q will stick Crawdaddy back into the goal to face Penguins point-leader, Evgeny Malkin.

Today's topic; Starting Goaltender, Corey Crawford or Ray Emery? Craw Daddy was given the job to start this season after the nice job he did versus Vancouver in the playoffs. He beat out Marty Turco to get the job and frankly, he deserved it.

Razor came to the Hawk after spending all of '10-'11 season in Anaheim. There he started a whopping 9 games, a feat that he has already tied this season and tonight will break. Emery started out as the backup to Craw, but has earned the playing time and tonight will start his fourth straight game.

He was released in 08 from Ottawa due to "a string of off-ice incidents caused the organization to sour on him", but so far it seems that he is well liked by his new team. Craw Daday just signed a 3 year extension to the tune of $8 Million!

I think Craw is going to win the job back by the end of the season. Not saying anything bad about the Razor. He's doin a hellava job so far, and I hope he keeps it up. However, Craw's gonna bounce back and when he gets another shot, and he might not give it back.

The struggling Anaheim Ducks fly their v-formation into town for a friday night bout against the Hawks at the United Center. They mighty fowl are looking to disrupt their 9-game losing streak on the road, which if not broken, will become a franchise record. No word if they will bring in Emilio Estevez for additional team counsel.

Meanwhile, in Hawkland, the team is on a 3-game winning streak, including a great shootout win against the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night. The team is mostly healthy, but Carcillo will be out tonight with an upper body injury sustained in the last game. To replace Carbomb, Ben Smith is slated to be recalled from the revolving door that is the Rockford Ice Hogs.

Ray Emery will be back in the saddle again, starting in net for the 4th time in the last 6 games. Coach Quenneville had this to say about Razor's performance against the Wild. "Nice game. It gets on the line, and he gets bigger."

Team Teal rolls into the United Center for a Sunday night showdown against the Hawks. The Fins trail the Hawks by 3 points in the standings and are coming off a 1-0 loss in St.Louis last night.

The Blackhawks should be well-rested after a few days off and are probably looking to redeem themselves after being shut-out when they were in San Jose during the circus trip.

Ex-Hawk Niemi will be in net for the Sharks while Quenneville plans to continue on the solid performances of Ray Emery as of late. This will be Razor's 3rd start in the last 4 games.

Back on The Road - Blackhawks vs. NY Islanders

The Hawks head out to Dong Island (America's other wang) to take on the Islanders Thursday night at Nassau Coliseum. Ray Emery will be starting in goal for the Blackhawks, as the Isles try to redeem themselves after a shootout loss at the United Center just 6 days ago.

With the Fishsticks looking to continue their 2-game winning streak, Captain Serious and the gang need to come out firing from the first puck drop. The last couple of games have seen the Hawks fighting a deficit after the first period, and although they love to make comebacks, it'd be great to see the Indian Head sweaters defending a lead.

And if they can't do that, well lets hope they get a lit more physical and Car Bomb gets in there to Punch Someone In The Eye...

The Blackhawks played a late game Saturday night in Los Angeles, winning 2-1. The team looked pretty solid all game, but net-minder Corey Crawford was the real star. In the closing seconds of the game, #50 made a HUGE glove-side save to keep the game from going into OT. This marks the end of the circus road-trip and the guys will head back to the United Center to face the Coyotes tuesday night.

Interesting Fact: In previous years, the team would stay in a hotel and get a good night's sleep after the final game of the circus road-trip. But this year, the team apparently lobbied hard to take a red-eye flight home, arriving back in Chicago early the next morning, but getting to sleep in their own beds.

In other game notes, the National Anthem was an absolute disgrace. The singer, a woman who looked like the love-child of Mariah Carey and Gloria Estefan, dragged out every single line while raising her arm for maximum effect. The performance caused this reaction from Pat Foley: "Really honey, its not all about you."

Did anyone else notice the Cartman audio sample they kept playing over and over again in the Staples Center?
I swear he was chanting "No Means No" "No Means No". That sort of makes sense though, since I'm sure Kings players and fans are used to hearing that.

Side Rant: WTF WGN?! What was up with the feed in the 3rd period?! Why you bein' all glitchy and blacking out every time we're about to shoot?

Blackhawks Shake-off Their Turkey Hangover in Anaheim

The beginning of Friday's afternoon game in Anaheim was not going well for the Blackhawks, despite the return of defenseman Brent Seabrook from the injured reserve list. At the end of the first period, the Hawks found themselves down 3-2 against the Schmucks.

The 2nd period was equally dim and although the Hawks outshot the Ducks 17-5 in this period, they were unable to score while Anaheim tallied one more goal, leaving us down 4-2 going into the 2nd intermission.

Just as it seemed that the game was out of reach, and Hawks fans all over began making tryptophan-related excuses for our lackluster play, they came out firing in the 3rd period. Sharpie scored twice more to get his hat-trick and Tazer racked up 2 goals and 2 assists of his own, putting us ahead 6-4.

Anaheim pulled their goalie with just under 2 minutes left to gain the extra attacker. While it looked like the Hawks were going to be able to fight off the extra-man advantage the Schmucks were able to slip one past Corey Crawford with under a minute left. But time would run out for the Ducks, leaving the Hawks with a much-needed 6-5 win.

Welcome once again to another great Friday night in the city of Chi. Our hero's head to America's Hat to take on those pesky lil' balls of fire. We are riding the wings of a sweet 4 game win streak. Looked like the boys answered the bell on regaining their swagger on special teams; going 2 for 3 on the man advantage and not taking a penelty vs Vancouver. Craw daddy is in net again after stopping 28 of 29 @ Van. He's looking great. Plain and simple. Brent Seabrook is out again with a leg, so I'm sure Q will insert the versitle, amazing, skillful, swift, offensive juggernaut.... good ole John Scott. In Scott's 9 games he has 0 goals, 0 assists, 2 penelty minutes, and is a -2. Just saying...you heard it here first...AHL.
On to better news (and players).... Ben Smith gets the nod as Frolik is out tonight. Smith was called up from Rockford the other day and is the hero from Game 6 vs Van last year. See below.

#1 Score early and often. Word is the Calgary is going through some internal issues and that a big name is going to be shown the door in the very near future. So get up early and watch them self-destruct. Hawks are also 8-0-1 when scoring first.

#2 Stop Iginla... He's good. Jarome Iginla scored five goals and added three assists for eight points in four games against the Blackhawks last season. Plus I hate that guy.

#3 Only we can prevent forest fires.. Hawks have dominated Calgary lately... Chicago has won 11 of the last 13 games. However those two losses were in Calgary so don't take these hosers lightly.

Signs of Life from Stalberg

Anyone who's watched a game with me typically walks away with a clear understanding of my opinion of Viktor Stalberg's play over the past year. He is fast, don't get me wrong, but that is where his hockey skills end and where he begins to look like a speed skater who's been handed a helmet and stick.

That's harsh criticism, I know, but Q's demotions and benchings since coming over from Toronto are evidence that the 25-year-old Swede has not been performing to his expectations. I could go into my description of Viktor looking like he's been suddenly shot in the chest when confronted with a one-on one situation but my main criticism has been his inability to make plays and see the game at the NHL level. Most NHL youngsters struggle with this but most have developed enough skill so that they keep their eyes on the game and NOT the puck when they are carrying it.

Stalberg had a nice game winner in OT on Halloween night at the UC, which likely bought him another chance skating with the top line in that ever rotating wing position. Since then he has looked, dare I say, Very Good. At one point in the win against Edm I witnessed our Captain Serious just outside the crease unready for a nifty feed from Viktor that reduced him to looking like, well, Stalberg in the first ten games of the season.

Maybe he finally is getting the clue that he needs to be contributing to play on the lines where his speed can be utilized. Stalberg on the checking line is like having Urlacher line up at wide receiver on a hot route (Red 7! Red 7! Hot Route! Hot Route).

In all fairness, it likely has to do with him getting over the learning the curve. The game around him seems to be slowing down, allowing him to make better decisions and skate with improved confidence. On any other team you could chalk it up to his youth, but on this Hawks team (where his age is considered approaching the golden years), youth is a weapon and not an excuse.

I thought Q shaking up the lines went pretty well..and clearly adding Montador to the power play was a very wise move... The line of Toews, Viktor Stalberg and Marian Hossa were a combined plus-9 with five points.

Hitchcock presents the Blues tonite

New Blues coach Ken Hitchcock paid the ultimate compliment to Hawks star Patrick Kane, who has been playing center for Chicago after previously playing exclusively on the wing. "That's the worst nightmare for all of us," Hitchcock said, referring to coaches around the NHL. "That's not good because a player that's that strong and that competitive and that patient with the puck, we've all kind of dreaded that day when he was going to move into the middle of the ice. It's not fun. When you come with a 1-2 punch like that, it's not a lot of fun. It's a little bit scary."

When hearing those comments, Kane responded, "It's fun to hear that, especially from a coach like that who's so well-respected like that and who has so many wins under his belt (like that.)"

Hitchcock said Kane's transformation will be fine and the rest of the league will just have to deal with it. That's right Mr. HitchCOCK deal with it!!

The Hawks Visit America's Wang and Win in a Shootout

The Hawks took a roadtrip down to Miami for a game against the Panthers (big pussies) Thursday night. Apparently it was as much fun as business, as the guys also had their dads tagging along and supposedly took over the golf course by day.

Come game-time, the Hawks jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first period and doubled the effort in the second to make it 2-0. But the Panths started pressuring more and managed to get a couple past Crawford to tie it up.

With no more goals scored, it went to OT, then shootout. That too remained scoreless until Patrick Kane was able to slide one through Jacob Markstrom’s legs FTW.

Fun Patrick Kane Fact: Spin-o-rama has become an official term adopted by the Hawk game commentators.

The BankAtlantic Center looked depressingly empty, which could be due to the fact only 15 people know there is a hockey team in Florida. In this video, NHL.com's Kevin Weekes gives a rundown of his Top 5 favorite goalie masks this year.

Chicago's own Ray "Razor" Emery came in at Number 2 in this list, just behind the LA Kings' net-minder Jonathan Bernier.

I personally think Emery's mask is better than Bernier's. Emery's is a tight rendering of a headdress wearing native, with slick lines and a great color palette, while Bernier's is a cacophony of random Los Angeles imagery.

Looks like Snoop Dogg agrees even though reppin' LA is what he does like every single day.

Proof that Canadians can't handle their beer! This guy has to be a Canucks fan right??

Viktor Stalberg is Keeping True To His Name

What a beauty that OT win was last night over the Nashville (Child) Predators.

Viktor Stalberg must've been hearing his name chanted, because as he drove towards the net, he made the wise decision to stall for a moment and let Nashville's defense slide out of place, allowing him to send a shot past Predators goalkeep Pekka Rinne (Romano) and become the victor.

I love seeing the Hawks exhibit this type of patience. The team looks like they are starting to be more aware on the ice and attack where the opponents are weakest. This was especially clear in their passing game, which really seemed to find the open passing lanes and create good scoring opportunities.

It's not Dave Bolland's birthday today (June 5, 1986), but after his slip-sliding shortie against the Columbus Blue Jackets, he should be sipping Bacardi in da club like it is.

Not only did the goal put the Hawks up 2-1 in the closing minute of the 1st Period, but it also redeems Davey for some time spent in the box just a few minutes earlier.

For utter redemption, I think of one thing and one thing alone.

Tonight's tilt features your Blackhawks and the Eric Staal led Carolina Panther...I mean Hurricanes... The Blackhawks come in to tonights game knee deep in a 10 game point streak... they will need to get the scoring going if they hope to come home with the streak in tact Saturday night...

Personally I'd like to see Stallberg finally get going... he's too explosive to not be scoring goals.. Also Duncan "Dr. Teeth" Keith needs to lock it down on defense...he's been very careless with the puck recently... Going to be a tough one tonight...but look for the 3rd and 4th lines to contribute on the score sheet... and keep an eye out for changes to the power play... Hossa took Brunettes place on the first power play line at practice this week... Big Hoss could break out tonight!

STAT CORNER

-Craw will be in net tonight with the Emery board starting the home game vs Columbus tomorrow... in net for Carolina tonight will be Cam Ward...Ward is 3-2-2, with a 92% save percentage.... Craw matches up well vs Ward with a 4-1-2 record and a 93% save percentage.

-Carolina is 1-1-1 at home, while your Hawks are 2-1 on the road...

-Daniel "Car Bomb" Carcillo is +5 early in the season...he has shown to be a great addition and has really been more than just a goon to this point... keep on car bombin!

-Sharpie comes in riding a 5 game point streak and big hoss comes in with a 4 game point streak...

-The Hawks penelty kill has yet to yeild a road goal... 7 for 7...

STATS WE NEED TO CHANGE

-The Canes have earned points in 10 of their last 11 games against Chicago

-Chicago has not earned a win at Carolina since Jan. 14, 1998, a 4-1 decision at the Greensboro Coliseum

Heading into this season, I think the biggest question on a lot of fan's minds was what Q was going to do to put together two consistently solid scoring lines this year. Let's go back six months ago when the typical, seldom healthy, lines would consist of a front-loaded Sharp-Toews-Kane combo followed by Kopecky-Bolland (again, when healthy)-Hossa. With the departure of Kopecky, the obvious solution would have been to throw newly acquired and one time 80-point notcher, Andrew Brunette, in with the mix and call it a day.

But here's where coach Q started earning his recently extended contract. By "experimenting" with Kane at center, this freed Bolland to center the third line with wingers Frolik and Bickell. On paper, the team instantaneously improved as we had a third line capable of producing on par with many second lines throughout the NHL while still being a bona fide shut-down line. However Kane's move to center also created a gaping void at the RW position he once occupied that would need to be filled. Kruger? Not yet. Stahlberg? Probably never.

My wife and I were finishing dinner when the pregame for the Winnepeg tilt (game-3) came on. The second line had yet to score a goal on the season and apparently Saad had not impressed as Kane and Hossa would be playing with Carcillo (a one time 300 PIM guy), in his first appearance in the old Indian Head sweater. 'Fricking Carcillo must think he's died and gone to heaven', I said. She laughed like she does when I say something that's not really funny. By the start of the second period it all made sense. Kane had scored his first off a nifty dish by Danny Boy and Hossa would add his first 33 seconds into the second. Kane and Hossa, arguably the Hawks two best forwards along the boards, now had more space and their ability to handle the puck in tight had worn off, or was always there and I hadn't seen it, on Carcillo. He's started on the line every game since and truly looks like he belongs there. His combination of grittiness, offensive awareness and defensive responsibility is a welcome change. The Kane line has scored in every game since and the third line is on fire with Bolland leading the charge. Most importantly, the Hawks are 3-0-1 since Carcillo laced the skates up.

I know it's early but right now I'm a believer. My biggest concern heading into the season was that Carcillo would take his typical share of unnecessary penalties forcing the penaly kill into early retirement. With four games under his belt, his PIMs is matched by his number of helpers (2) and is tied with the lead amongst forwards with a +3 rating. So far, so good for this Hawks fan. I'll tell you one thing, as soon as he drops the gloves a few time (old habits die hard), you're going to see a lot of 13 sweaters popping up @ the UC!

Game 5 brings the mighty B Hawks into Phoenix to tangle with the wolves...er coyotes...

The Hawks come into tonights game fresh of their crappy 3rd period Saturday night against Boston. Last years chumps outdeuled the Hawks in a shootout...where we somehow went 0 for 3??
They will need to improve things quickly as so far they have only scored three 3rd period goals compared to five 2nd period and four 1st period goals. Phoenix has also put up five 3rd period goals..so tonight would be a good night to turn some of that around...

More stats to turn around....
Over the past two seasons, PHX owns a 5-2-1 record vs. CHI; Out-scoring the Hawks 13-9 @ Home
Four of the last eight meetings have gone to a shootout, with PHX winning 3 of 4.

Welcome to Game 3 Hawks fans!

A few quick notes for tonights tilt where our heros will again be with their backs to the wall and facing extreme adversity...as they take on two teams!! Hawks 72..Winnipeg Jethrashers 1... Winnipeg's goal will be scored when Hawk goalie Ray Emery leaves the ice to pee.

Tonight will also mark the debut of both Dan "Car Bomb" Carcillo and goalie Ray Emery "board"... Hopefully Emery can prove to be a solid back up to CC... and Car Bomb punches someone in the face!

Also tonight will be the only tilt with the Jethrashers...which means tonight is the only chance we will get to show some appreciation to Big Daddy Buff and Laddy as they return to the UC ice for the first time since Game 5 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals... hope they get a nice round of applause... and then the Champs dominate the rest of the night.

Welcome to the first game of the season Hawks fans!!

The soon to be champs visit big D tonight at 7:30 pm ct.

And Dave Bolland is already hurt... is this guys back ever healthy? He's a big cog in the wheel, so hopefully it isn't serious.
We will also be without the services of Victor "the swedish chef" Stallberg and young Ben Smith for tonights tilt. Both were hurt in a preseason game with Detoit (SUCKS).

ESPN 1000's Jesse Rodgers says that John Scott is the lone scratch for tonights game. Which means that Daniel "Car Bomb" Carcillo will be taking care of any shennanigans... Speaking of fighting... Adam "furry" Burish will miss tonights game with a sore groin...no really..thats what it says..

Corey Crawford is the net minder for Da Hawk in game 1... He is opposed tonight by Kari (Girly Man) Lehtonen... Newly acquired Ray Emery will be Crawfords backup...

Tonight will also be the first (hopefully of many) game that Patrick "50 cent" Kane will start at Center. He won 67% of his faceoffs in the preseason, so hopefully that trend continues.

It also is the first game in the Indian Head sweater for newly acquired Andrew "Andy?" "Drew?" Brunette, Car Bomb, Emery, "Slammin" Sami Lepisto, Jamal "John" Mayers, Steve "OLE" Montador, Sean "Rosie" O'Donnell, Rostislav "Bob" Olesz, Brandon "Who" Saad, and Brandon "eerie" Pirri.

If we didn't already know that the Vancouver Canucks are a bunch of pussies, I think this is some strong evidence to make a case.

The video below shows the team being introduced to U2's Where The Streets Have No Name. I can't think of a worse song for pumping up a crowd.

It is perhaps appropriate though. The streets in Vancouver actually don't have names anymore, since their fans tore down all the signs after the Canucks meltdown in last year's Stanley Cup Finals.
